Rkatsiteli
Rkatsiteli or Rcatsiteli is the most planted grape in the former Soviet Union, and one of the more interesting whites. Spicy, floral, and dry, it’s got a bit in common with Gewurztraminer. With a lively level of acidity, it pops on the palate. Thanks to it’s ability to grow in cooler climates, you can find fun examples from New York State.

Sight: A firm gold from edge to edge.
Smell: Peaches, white grape juice, and a barrage of floral notes all come to the forefront. Butter, hints of vanilla, and touches of white apricot join in.
Sip: The body is moderate to full, and bone dry. The wine sparkles with life, as the acidity jumps out of the body, and dances across the palate. Many floral notes carry over from the nose, with pear, peach, lemon pith, and touches of herbs coming into play.
Savor: The ending is slight bitter with plenty of geranium and other floral notes being complimented by unripe apricot and lemon.
