Lots of Moscato lately, but as a last hurrah to summer, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sutter Home Moscato is another in a line of Sutter Home’s easy drinking wines. Moscato is a casual sort of wine, sugary, crisp, and light. Can Sutter Home Moscato deliver an experience that’s best in class, or is it just another slacker.
Sight: Light gold, pale.
Smell: Apricot, honeydew, and oranges. A little bit of honey.
Sip: There’s a little bump of rubber, that disappears into an underripe apricot peach flavor. The whole thing gets rather tangerine like, and sort of bitter-sweet. It’s very smooth, sort of acidic, and a little hot. [A.B.V. 10%]
Savor: There’s an orange blossom linger, that dissipates somewhat unnoticeably.
Overall, Sutter Home Moscato is another middle of the road wine. Sutter Home makes a simple everyday wine, but for more serious drinkers, there’s going to be a bit of boredom. Barefoot seems to have less imperfections in the same price range.
Verdict: Repeat a grade.
Price: $5.99
