Punto Final Malbec Rose 2015

Punto Final Malbec Rose 2015 Bottle

When most folks think of Malbec, they think of deep, dark, plummy wines with good structure.  What most people don’t think of, is a rosé.  Now this isn’t to say Malbec can’t make good rosé, it’s just something unusual.  So does Punto Final Malbec Rose make for a good example thanks to it’s great region pedigree?

Punto Final Malbec Rose 2015

Sight:  Almost pomegranate or cranberry juice in color, a much dark shade than most rosés, like a claret.

Smell: Cherries and red plums come out to say hello with a peak of ripe strawberries.    The nose smells crisp and clean.

Sip:  There’s a more moderate weight, and a good brightness here.  Orange and cherries come together, and complimented by strawberry, give a very sangria like note.

Savor:  The ending is more of the cherry, but leaning more sour.  There are good elements of currant and red plum.

Punto Final Malbec Rose is an interesting combination of light red wine and deep rosé.    While it’s not quite as refreshing as a lighter example, it also has a little more structure to stand up to more food.  If you wanted to have this with a chicken sandwich, steak salad, or perhaps a robust fish dish.  While Punto Final Malbec Rose isn’t your sit in the sun kind of rosé, it’s a nice example that borders a claret and is worth a try.

Verdict:  Cherry, Strawberry, Orange, Sangria Like
