Wine writing sometimes has a habit of pontificating ad nauseam, but in this case, let’s just get into whether or not the Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre blend from Pontificis GSM is worth your time to try.
Sight: A firm purple core with lighter edges, and hints of brickish red shimmering throughout.
Smell: Spices, raspberries, and strawberries all come together in a slightly baked and jammy kind of way. Earthy elements of chocolate and toast come in near the edges with black olive and pepper elements. A touch of sweetness is in the nose.
Sip: The body is on the lighter side of moderate, but retains a smooth and silky texture. The brightness is also middling, but compliments the flavors that range from spiced plums to jammy raspberries, with notes of tomato, black pepper, and olives. Sage peeks it’s head in for a cameo.
Savor: The ending is slightly more toward the strawberry, raspberry, and tomato side of things with a mild tannic structure.
Pontificis GSM is a nice mix of spice and fruit. The dark fruits tend to pervade in the middle, while on the ends, it’s the redder fruits. Texturally, it’s a bit the same, things are best in the middle, where the ends get a little ragged. Overall, Pontificis GSM delivers a tasty experience, but doesn’t let loose or pontificate profusely.
