Pacific Rim is one of my favorite go-to brands for Riesling, be it dry or sweet. Like Wagner, they’ve gotten pretty good at making it. Unlike Wagner though, you don’t have to be blessed to live near their glorious wines (or have to ship to yourself) to enjoy Pacific Rim. With that said, seeing Pacific Rim White Flowers Sparkling Riesling on the shelf seemed like a must try. Is it worth bringing to New Year’s Eve?
Sight: 24k gold with lots of tiny bubbles.
Smell: Heavy handed with honey, it picks up floral aromas and hints of caramel apple. A note of beeswax runs in the background.
Sip: The palate is round and fuller than one might expect for Riesling, thanks to the mild sweetness. Honey again leads off, giving way to touches of biscuit, beeswax, and flowers. The effervescent bubbles are exciting and tiny.
Savor: The finish is bready, with notes of yeast. Hints of honey and apple linger.
Pacific Rim White Flowers Sparkling Riesling is heavy handed toward the sur lie side of the spectrum. If you’re coming into this expect a light, fruity Riesling, this isn’t what you’re looking for. However, folks who love floral wines, and those who like Welch’s might find this right up their alley. Pacific Rim White Flowers Sparkling Riesling is a sweet floral romp that could help ring in the new year with a little bit of spring-like note.
