Negroni

Negroni

The Negroni is one of the most refreshing gin drinks you can experience in the summer, and another great way to use Sweet Vermouth.  In the Negroni though, Sweet Vermouth isn’t the only element adding sweetness, as Campari takes center stage, adding a sweetness and bitter herbalness.   Combined with gin, this floral, herbal, bitter and sweet concoction can take the edge off the summer heat, and have you feeling happy, refreshed, and mellow.

  • 3 Parts Gin
  • 2 Parts Campari
  • 2 Parts Sweet Vermouth
  • Orange Zest – Garnish

Combine all ingredients (except orange) in a mixing glass, stir until chilled, double strain over ice, and garnish with an orange twist.

Negroni Notes

The Negroni is more classically made from 1 part of each of the primary components, however there are many variations, so feel free to experiment.

  • Gin – Generally speaking any sort of gin will do here, most traditional is London Dry Gin, like Bombay Sapphire or Tanqueray
  • Campari – There’s really no true substitute for this Italian aperitif, but don’t be afraid you’ll be stuck with nothing to do with it.  Campari is great for adding to sodas, spritzers, over ice, and for other cocktails like the Boulevardier or Americano.
  • Sweet Vermouth – Again, you can splurge for a bottle of Carpano Antica (Available @ Wine.com), but Martini & Rossi will work just fine.
