Although it should be obvious based on the shape of the cork, it is an incredibly terrible plan to attempt to open a bottle of sparkling wine with a corkscrew. By that same token, you should also not use an Ah-So or an electric wine opener for the task. The reason? Each bottle contains almost 150 psi, the same as your standard tractor trailer tire. Mionetto il Moscato is different. Thanks to a cap, it doesn’t need any fancy opener, though, just a good old fashion bottle opener will do.
Sight: A pale gold hue with very few medium sized bubbles.
Smell: The nose smells like opening a bag of candy, and has some distinct elements of overripe peaches and fresh apricots. Floral notes join in, and the candy-like sweetness gives a bit of a honey note.
Sip: Big peaches and apricots open things off and notes of white grapes and lavender come in. The body is in the middling range of sweetness with the semi-sparkling bubbles coming through.
Savor: The ending is a little more tangy with the nectarines and peaches pulling through their natural acidity.
Mionetto il Moscato is a delightful little romp through a sweet stonefruit maze. Lovers of sweet wines will love the fresh peaches and nectarines, while those who prefer their wines a little less sweet won’t be overwhelmed. The floral complexity is well layered, and the bubbles are pleasant. Mionetto il Moscato is a great easy going wine that requires no experience to open or enjoy.
