It’s almost time to celebrate the 4th of July, and what better way to kick off than with an firecracker, Pinot Grigio. Soaring acidity, served cold, and full of refreshing fruits, Pinot Grigio is a great choice when it’s hot. That’ll help keep your guests happy and lively long into the evening, and well past the fireworks. Hailing from Trentino, La Vis Ritratti Pinot Grigio doesn’t have the pedigree of a Fruili-Venezia Pinot Grigio, but does it do as well?
Sight: A moderate yellowy-gold
Smell: Green apple, pear, underripe stone fruit, and lemon all pop up. There’s a stone element in the background, and a touch of flowers.
Sip: The body is rather flabby, despite some of the acidity that pops up in the front. A bit of bitterness accompanies it, and is similar to unripe stone fruit. There are some hints of pear and quince, floral notes, and stone. The bitterness makes all the elements a little less than pleasant.
Savor: The ending is more of the bitterness and unripe fruit flavors. It cares on longer than one would care to enjoy.
La Vis Ritratti Pinot Grigio is not something I’d reach for unprompted. Which is a shame, since Italian Pinot Grigio is normally great, with soaring acidity and great fruit. That said, don’t waste your time with La Vis Ritratti Pinot Grigio, there’s better out there in the same price range.
Verdict: Unripe, Pear, Lemon, Flabby
