Every November, on the 3rd Thursday of the month, the collective wine community loses their minds, and run to the store to grab a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau. Beaujolais is great in a certain light. Like the excitement of the first snow. Everyone runs to the window, makes a huge fuss, and then goes about their business. Somewhere into a month of this occurring, people start wishing for palm trees, tiki drinks, or at the least, spring. With that in mind, I hope you aren’t burnt out with Beaujolais, because here’s Jean-Claude DeBeaune Beaujolais Nouveau.
Sight: A plump magenta color that leans toward plum skins in the middle.
Smell: Bing cherries with pops of earthiness come out. There’s a sort of black cherry jello that comes around with a touch of berries or plum.
Sip: The body is young and vibrant with just a tiny hint of sweetness. The flavor profile gets pretty dark, with a lot of plum, black cherry jello, and cranberries. The red fruits here are very bright.
Savor: The ending is more tannic than one might expect from a usually light wine. Elements of coffee and black cherry linger through the finish.
Jean-Claude DeBeaune Beaujolais Nouveau is tart, fruity, and fresh for the 2016 vintage. Is it great wine? Probably not. For poultry, picnics, and mulling with spices, Jean-Claude DeBeaune Beaujolais is an easy going choice that will satisfy guests at a nice price.
