New Holland Brewing Ichabod Pumpkin Ale hopes that you could truly lose your head for it. While the Michigan based brewing company is nowhere near Sleepy Hallow, it’s able to provide scary good times on some of it’s other brews. Can Ichabod Pumpkin Ale continue the legend, or is there something a miss in this Sleepy Village.
Sight: A deep amber, still orange.
Smell: Nutmeg and pumpkin are the key points that Ichabod focuses it’s attack. There’s also some slightly yeasty notes, like a pumpkin muffin.
Sip: A rather light mouth feel with a large amount of carbonation. There is a slight chew. The nutmeg is a bit on the heavy side, while the cinnamon is under played. There’s a pumpkin under pinning, but it’s palate isn’t where it shines. [A.B.V. 5.2%]
Savor: The pumpkin pulls through on the end, but the spice never quite balances to make pie.
Overall, Ichabod Pumpkin Ale isn’t anything to lose your head over. It’s a decent beer to try, but it’s not the best stand out of the pack. While it’s sight and head retention are among the top, the flavor could use a bit of boost. It has received some praise from friends of First Pour Wine, so give it a shot, the price isn’t a big deal.
Verdict: Headless horseman
Price: $1.89 / 12 oz
