Last week was a little bit red, so let’s break into the Chardonnay. On it’s face, Hudson Rock Chardonnay would appear to be from Napa, but in actually it’s from Lodi. While it’s not listed label, it also is aged in oak barrels for 4 to 6 months. Typically, this helps give Chardonnay a more buttery character. So with all the information that isn’t listed on the label, does Hudson Rock Chardonnay deliver more than it appears?
Sight: A moderate gold with firm edges
Smell: Peaches and ripe pears jump off at the start, followed by bright apples, hints of citrus and flowers. The nose smells somewhat sweet, and all the fruit feels ripe.
Sip: There’s a softness and roundness that’s expected from Chardonnay, and it delivers in spades. Bright golden apples and perfectly ripened pears join with hints of tropical fruits, a subtle creaminess, and plenty of citrus. Despite the weight, it’s very lively.
Savor: The finish pulls in tropical fruits like guava and papaya, while still maintaining an undercurrent of apple and pear. The fruitiness is fantastic, and the finish lingers for an extended duration.
Hudson Rock Chardonnay is killer for the price. Loaded with all sorts of fruit and full body, it’s bombastic in it’s character as white, and keeps things lively. If you can find it on sale, Hudson Rock Chardonnay is a no brainer, must try.
Verdict: Golden Apples, Ripe Pears, Tropical Fruit, Creamy Body
