Dear Honoro Vera, can you do any wrong? Their Garnacha got an 89 in July (as part of our Wine 103 series), and their Monastrell (part of our Wine 301 series) got a whopping 93, making it one of our top wines this year. Without a doubt, they’re on a hot streak. Their Garnacha would make a great compliment to the bird, but what if you’re feeling white? Honoro Vera Rueda is made from Verdejo, a bright, aromatic grape that can help split the line between Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurztraminer. But can it keep up Honoro Vera’s hot trend?
Sight: Pale with a hint of straw.
Smell: Jasmine and honeysuckle come off the top, and add in huge pear and apple notes. Lemon and honeydew add for fun with a few notes of kiwi and pineapple.
Sip: Bright and light, it glows with fruit and flowers. The body is loaded with fresh melon, ripe apples, pears, and all sorts of lemon and jasmine. The floral notes grow, adding in roses and lemongrass.
Savor: The ending pulls in more tropical fruit and a massive pull of roses and jasmine.
Honoro Vera Rueda glows with beautiful notes of flowers and fresh tropical fruits. The sparkling acidity is well balanced and adds to the fruitiness. With a palate cleansing nature, it works well with food. For Turkey Day, the lightness and acidity will be a hit with Sauvignon Blanc fans or those who like brighter whites.
Verdict: Jasmine, Roses, Melon, Pear, Bright
