Torrontés is something of a misnomer, and really could refer to any of three grapes grown in Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay (although the later two are rarely exported) with the first name torrontés. How torrontés reached Argentina is something of a mystery, but what is known is that it produces aromatic, smooth, generally low acid wines. At its best, torrontés is extremely fruity, particularly stone fruits such as apricots, peaches, and nectarines. It occasionally can be reminiscent of fruity pebbles due to it’s high fruit concentration. Torrontés is almost always meant to be consumed within a few years.
