Chenin Blanc is one of the classically important white grapes known for creating the dry, semi-dry, and sweet wine Vouvray from the Liore Valley in France. Chenin blanc is a chameleon, pulling off wines that can be bone dry with shimmering acidity, and wines evoking descriptions of sweet rounded fruitiness with crisp overtones in the background. While the best examples come from the Liore, it is Southern Africa’s most prominent white grape, and is made into easy drinking whites for mass consumption.
The two primary examples of Chenin Blanc in the Liore are Vouvray & Savennières.
