Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port

If you happen to love deep, dark, sweet, fruity wines with massive alcohol contents, then one of the best parts of winter is Porto.  Nothing chases away the chill quite like a glass of ruby.  Laced with dark fruits, it’s an excellent partner to both blue cheese and dark chocolate.  Hailing from one of the best names in the business, Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port has an attractive price for a winter treat.

[Disclosure:  Graham’s was awesome enough to send me a sample of their Port to keep me warm through this cold winter evening.]

Sight:  A dark inky black from edge to edge, with not even the ability to see a watch through it.

Smell: Hints of wet slate envelop notes of incredibly jammy blackberries and blueberries. Dark chocolate and pistachios come together with a hint black cherry and fig.

Sip:  The body is firm and fleshy, like a plum.  A slight touch of heat from the alcohol comes into play, and the tannins aren’t shy about getting to work.  In addition to the jammy blackberries and prunes, there’s a serious note in the back of burnt coffee, charcoal, and dark chocolate.  A subtle sweetness keeps this combination working in harmony.

Savor:  The end gets a hit of tannins, and brings in more of the charcoal and blackberry flavors with hints of chocolate.

Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port is a beast of flavor, powering it’s way forward with deep, dark elements.  The slight smokey charcoal note gives it an element of earthiness, and the jammy fruit creates an almost grilled berry element.  The flavors are very robust and well defined.  If you have a Port lover in your life and don’t want to break the bank, then Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port offers a great, big, bruiser of a wine for a great price.
