d’Arenberg The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Last year’s recommendation, Leese-Fitch has been a consistently good value, but the Australians are no slouches when it comes to making great wines. d’Arenberg is one of the top producers, so how does d’Arenberg The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon fare?
Sight: A firm, royal purple core, with deep ruby edges.
Smell: Jammy blackberries and black cherries leap off the surface, with black currants in the undertones. Touches of leather and coffee come together to add depth. A nice blend of cigar box spices are in play, and a subtle touch of eucalyptus is around.
Sip: The body is moderate in weight, soft, and a little round, but there’s plenty of liveliness keeping thing going. Blackberries and black jello cherry are apparent, and pops of red current, baking spice, and leather all come to join in.
Savor: The ending gets a good amount of black plums, blackberries, and spice, with a huge smack of tannins. The finish has a good length.
d’Arenberg The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon is well crafted, and a great example of a more moderate weight Cab. The flavors are all well constructed, the lean character of the wine opens it up to a broader range of food. As a good example Cabernet Sauvignon, d’Arenberg The High Trellis Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious option.
