When discussing Jaume Serra Cristalino Brut Cava, it was mentioned that a top producer in Penedes, and of cava, is Codorníu. With a long history as well, they have a lots of experience making cava, and have even made a rosé. Interestingly, Anna de Codorníu Brut Rosé is 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay. With that sort of make up, it has just as much in common with Champagne as cava (if perhaps a bit more skin contact to turn it pink), so how does it taste?
Sight: Light pink with a decent number of tiny little bubbles
Smell: Sweet strawberry compote and fresh raspberries come out, followed by bright cherries. The smells of ripe red fruits are plentiful, and ripe.
Sip: The sip starts off bright, but gets aggressively bubbly. It never quite comes down from there, but the carbonation becomes less prickly and more smoothed out. Texturally wise, it’s super puffy. Big flavors of fresh raspberries, strawberries, and cherries all come out with just a hint of spice. There is no sweetness here, but an element of earthiness hides near the edges.
Savor: The finish has a ton of fresh raspberry flavor that lingers pleasantly.
Anna de Codorníu Brut Rosé is a mouthful of fresh berries, and happy bubbles. There’s a lot to like here from a sparkling rosé perspective, from the freshness of the fruit, to the subtle sense of spice or terroir. While it lacks a little sweetness, it’s beautifully bright, and texturally vibrant. Anna de Codorníu Brut Rose is a definite must try for fans of rosé, and sparkling fans will enjoy how well made this is for only $10.
Verdict: Raspberry, Strawberry, Cherry, Puffy
