il Fiorino Chianti 2012

il Fiorino Chianti 2012 Bottle

Perhaps few wines convey the sense of place as well as Italian wines.  Laced with earthy character and sun drenched fruits, they almost beckon the drinker to come visit and see the land that produced the fruit.  Does il Fiorino Chianti do it justice?

[Side note, the label came that way from Wine Library, they’re normally pretty great, so this is a one off!]

Sight:  A vibrant red, with thinner edges

Smell:  There’s a deeply sun dried plum smell that emanates immediately, that laces a balsamic like character to it.  Jammy cherries, and bright red fruit combine with an earthiness and spice.  The nose is complex, and delicious.

Sip:  Brightness leads off, and the mouthfeel is rather smooth.  The flavors of sun drenched plums and raspberries come through, and combine with an earthy cocoa like note.  There are elements of spice and balsamic that run throughout, and the tiniest hints of sweetness join in.

Savor:  The ending is long and smooth, with good amounts of prune, plum, and a touch of spice.

il Fiorino Chianti is delectable, and well balanced.   The mix of sun drenched fruits, spice, and earthy notes is deep, delicious, and enjoyable.  It may be more old world than some more modern interpretations, but the flavors are punchy and powerful.  If you’re looking for an interesting Chianti, then il Fiorino Chianti is a great choice.
