When one thinks of Cabernet Sauvignon, the likely places to assume it’s coming from are California and France. However, Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the most widely planted varietals in the world, finding homes everywhere from New York to Australia to Chile, and all points in between. Hailing from Italy, Cadia Cabernet Sauvignon hopes to deliver on the delicious promise of Italian warmth with a cheap price, but does it succeed?
Sight: Garnet core, with an orangish edge.
Smell: Chocolate and spicy raspberries mix together with a subtle hint of eucalyptus. Mint and cherries pick up some of the flavors, with a touch of plum skin.
Sip: Bright, and perhaps lighter than it should be. Mint and cherry mingle with eucalyptus, plum, and raspberry. A subtle amount of earthiness comes into play.
Savor: The ending is slightly herbal, with a hint of earth or chocolate. Tannins come through looking for food
Cadia Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 is tasty, if fairly plain. Nothing here is stand out, and mostly works its magic as a good everyday drinker with a reasonable price point. While there are good fruit flavors, herbs, and acidity, the body is a touch under. Still, for a quick sip on wine, there’s not much to complain about with Cadia Cabernet Sauvignon.
