Things are finally starting to warm up, so it’s time to break out some of the warmer weather wines. Almost nothing is more refreshing than a crisp Pinot Grigio. Hailing from Italy, where they produce some of the best, how is Ca Di Rajo Pinot Grigio?
Sight: A moderate gold, bordering on yellow, with a lighter edge.
Smell: Pears and fresh lemons comes to the forefront with hints of honeydew and kiwi. The nose is delightfully fruit, with a refreshing edge of melon and citrus.
Sip: The body is rather round, and doesn’t leap out of it’s way with brightness. That said, it’s not flabby, and channels in flavors of lemon and apple skin. Cantaloupe and floral notes come through, with touches of stone fruit round the edges.
Savor: The ending really shines, with more brightness, hints of minerality, lemon pith, and melon. The finish carries for a while, and manages to be refreshing.
Ca Di Rajo Pinot Grigio is refreshing and fruity, if not particularly bright. The lack of brightness really undermines the body here, make it fall short of traditional Pinot Grigio. With that in mind, the flavors are really good. If you’re a fan of chardonnay, Ca Di Rajo Pinot Grigio might not be a bad choice for you.
