Need something to go off with a bang like a firework? Sparkling wine is a great choice for the 4th of July thanks to it’s palate cleansing and refreshing nature. While you can buy sparkling wine from any number of regions, few deliver the value that Spanish Cava does. Among my favorites from last christmas was Anna De Codorníu Rosé, which was packed with big flavors of raspberries, strawberries, and cherries. With that great experience in mind, I had to find out if Anna De Codorníu Blanc de Blancs could live up to my expectations.
Sight: A medium gold color with a medium amount of tiny bubbles.
Smell: Fresh golden apples pop out, followed out hints of stone fruit, like fresh peaches and apricot. There’s a touch of fresh toast and nuts as well.
Sip: The body is light, and plenty fizzy, with refreshing pops of golden apple, apricot, lemon, and orange zest. The flavors of fresh fruit really come through, and race around with the brightness of the wine, and getting into tropical fruit and ripe peach territory. Despite all the fruitness, it’s still very dry.
Savor: The ending pulls in lots of orange zest, and stone fruit notes, lingering pleasantly on the palate.
Anna De Codorníu Blanc de Blancs is another stand out from the cava producer here. With all the fruit they’ve managed to cram into the bottle, it’s a bit of a surprise they still maintain the clear balance with the dry nature of he cava. As sparkling wine goes, the it hits it out of the park with delicious flavors and a refreshing character that’s perfect for any time of year. Anna De Codorníu Blanc de Blancs hits it out of the park, and is a must try for any sparkling or cava lover.
