Cupcake is one of the most prominent brands on the market. Walk into most larger stores in the US, and you generally can find something from Cupcake. While the majority of their wine comes from California, they do source some of their wine, like their Prosecco, from Italy. Just like V8+ Prosecco, Cupcake Prosecco is made in the Charmat process, not the méthode champenoise, but how is it?
Sight: Light gold, with lots and lots of bubbles
Smell: The nose is subtle with smells of peaches and citrus. Orange blossom seems most prominent.
Sip: The mouthfeel starts slightly bright and is soft with smooth bubbles and has a creamy texture. There’s a hint of bitterness, being driven by minerality, wet stone, and lemon. Subtle floral touches hide around the edges.
Savor: The ending is brief with a good amount of wet stone
Cupcake Prosecco is driven by terroir more than fruit. While the flavors are nice, they also happen to be subtle, and lean toward bone dry. The brightness isn’t quite vibrant enough to be standout either. Overall, there’s just not a huge amount going on here, but the subtly of Cupcake Prosecco would be good for mimosas, certain cocktails, or being unobtrusive for those that want to toast with something easy going.
Verdict: Minerality, Lemon, Wet Stone, Smooth
