2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon

2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon

2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon isn’t necessarily a pure a Cabernet Sauvignon, but it’s pretty darn close.  What it lack in purity it makes up in character, rounding out it’s 85% base of Cabernet with help from the lighter bodied Syrah and Tempranillo. In a similar way, the blending from multiple different regions of California makes this wine somewhat unique.

New world styling helps 2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon charm the palate with smooth oak, and plenty of jammy fruit. Perhaps the only complaint that could be leveled is that the Zork, while great for resealing, means that the paper on the neck must be forgone. This unfortunately can make for a clunky pour, and potentially chipped glass. It’d be excellent if for the next vintage this could be corrected.

Sight: Characteristically dark purple of cabernet sauvignon.

Smell: Blackberry jam, black currants, and vanilla mix with a slightly cedar like smell. A touch more berry jam for good measure.

Sip: Incredibly smooth with significant blackberry jam and vanilla espresso. There’s plums and caramel hiding in the background as well. A firm mouth feel brings the entire experience together.

Savor: Moderate tannins hang around for a while, accompanied by a smoky blackberry finish

2009 Leese Fitch Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent.  While it skews toward the smoky / oak side, it does have enough fruit to stay balanced and complex. It’s easy for drinking on it’s own, or perfect for grilled red meat. Thoroughly enjoyable, and very good value for the price.
