Rickshaw’s are best known for being public transportation with not quite enough wheels. They tend to come with 2 and someone or something to pull, or three and a motor. When it comes to wine, Chardonnay can feel a lot like a Rickshaw to folks. Like those who don’t appreciate three wheels or a pedicab, they’d rather get in just about anything else, just like some folks would prefer anything but Chardonnay (ABC drinkers). Can Rickshaw Chardonnay convert any of these folks, or is it just a third wheel?
Sight: A middling gold hue
Smell: The nose is deliciously packed with golden apples, lemons, pineapple, and hints of vanilla. Tropical fruits like starfruit and passionfruit come to play as well.
Sip: Bright, and a hint of residual sugar that dries out relatively quick, and doesn’t quite get to round. Apple, pear, and lemon all come to play, building in a wave of freshness. The tropical fruit notes play background, and a small amount of oak peers in.
Savor: The ending is slightly creamy, gets a bit of lemon and pineapple.
Rickshaw Chardonnay is a bright chardonnay with a hint of oak. By hint, it seems to mean the barrel may have visited the vineyard. That said, there’s a lot of good fruit here, and nice balance. It’s a little on the light side of the weight spectrum, but still quite nice on the palate. If you need a bright, fresh Chardonnay and want a lingering element of oak, than Rickshaw Chardonnay is for you.
