2009 White Truck Sauvignon Blanc

Red Truck has a rather interesting Cabernet Sauvignon, as we found out back in one of the first video reviews.  Like a dealership they also have several other trucks worth looking at, including White Truck, Green Truck, and Pink Truck.  While they all have slightly different focuses (white truck obviously white wine,  pink truck / rosé, and green truck / organics) they all represent potential values under $10.  Can 2009 White Truck Sauvignon Blanc pull out a big show stopper from California, or is this wine just not quite crisp enough?

Sight: It’s a little on the deeper gold side.

Smell:  It’s got a bit of gooseberry and grass, a little orange zest, and a touch of lychee.  There’s a note of over-ripe cantaloupe.

Sip:  The acid is quite powerful, but the mouth feel is a bit on the large side.  Somehow the wine ends up coming across as flabby and crisp all at the same time.  The flavors channel melon, gooseberry, lime, and minor floral notes. [A.B.V. 13.8%]

Savor:  The finish doesn’t linger long, but gives off a cross of gooseberry and lily.

Overall, 2009 White Truck Sauvignon Blanc is distinctly Californian in it’s size, but rather inconsistent.  It can’t seem to decide if it wants to be big and round like a Chardonnay,  or a crisp light sauvignon blanc.  It does get the flavor profile correct.  This wine should probably be consumed in the next 3 months or so.  It’s getting a little long in the tooth for the style.  Worth a try for the die hard sauvignon blanc lovers.

Verdict:  Crispy and rotund.
